Baï jia bei... pour bébé

Dans le nord de la Chine, la tradition célèbre l'arrivée d'une nouvelle vie d'une façon particulière: la création d'un Baï jia bei - un patchwork de 100 voeux.

La coutume est d'inviter des personnes à offrir chacune un ou plusieurs morceaux de tissus (20 x 20cm en coton). Les morceaux sont cousus ensemble pour former un patchwork qui contient la chance, l'énergie et les vœux de toutes les personnes qui y ont contribué.

Chaque personne qui participe au Baï Jia Bei remet également une carte sur laquelle auront été écrits les messages de bienvenue et de bonheur pour notre enfant ainsi qu'un échantillon du tissu envoyé. ( 1 coupon = 1 voeu)

alors voilà,

y a-t-il des bonnes fées parmi vous prêtes à participer à ce grand patchwork ?

Ceux et celles qui le souhaitent pourront donc m'envoyer:

* un ou plusieurs  coupons de 20x20cm

dans l'une de ces couleurs vives, pour un patchwork arc-en-ciel, qui conviendra à une petite fille ou un petit garçon... :)

sans trop de motifs enfantins, pour qu'il/elle puisse la garde longtemps...

* Incluez une note avec un souhait laquelle nous mettrons dans un scrapbook pour le bébé plus tard. (avec un petit morceau du même tissu)

* je montrerai régulièrement les tissus reçus avec le lien vers votre blog

(pour celles qui en ont, les non blogueuses peuvent aussi participer...)

What is a 100 Good Wishes Quilt?

To keep busy during the wait, I have decided to work on a project with which I need your assistance. I would like to invite you to participate in creating a “Bai Jia Bei”, otherwise known as a “100 Good Wishes Quilt”.
In parts of Northern China, when a baby is born, family and friends of the child donate fabric pieces to the child's mother. She then makes a quilt for the baby from the fabric. It is said that the luck, energy and good wishes from all of the families and friends who contributed, surround the child when he is wrapped in the quilt. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation. With your help I would like to honor this tradition for my baby :)

Here’s what you need to do to participate:

1. Send me an e-mail bjb.polinka@gmail.com & I'll give you my postal address

2. Please choose any 100% cotton fabric that you like and cut an 8 x 8 square to be used for the quilt. (prefer colorful fabrics, for a rainbow quilt, as we still don't know if we're expecting a boy or a girl... See the pictures above to get the idea :) )

3. Also include a smaller piece of this fabric to be placed in a memory book with the good wish.

4. Write your wish on a post-card or card stock. Your wish can be anything - your hopes for him/her, a poem, prayer, quote, verse, favorite saying, advice or anything meaningful to you. Make sure to sign your name and the city and state where you live on the bottom.

The good wish with the small swatch of your fabric will be incorporated into a special “Good Wishes” memory book.

If you have more than one person in your family who would like to participate then please feel free to send more than one quilt block and wish. Remember I need to get to 100 wishes so the more the better. Children are welcome to contribute to this project!
